Hot water systems offer us a more comfortable life and work hard daily to provide us daily comforts. But, we often forget about these systems because we’re busy with our own lives. We sometimes don’t realize how convenient our hot water heaters are until they’re not fully functioning to the best of their abilities.
It may be time to consider hot water repairs or a hot water heater replacement. If you’re looking for a replacement, you may not know where to start. You may ask professionals such as West end plumbing, who can help make the process easier and will better explain your choices.
Let’s first look at the history behind the water heater.
In 1868, Ben Maughan invented the first hot water system while working as a painter in London. He named it a “Geyser.” It had a gas burner which was used to hear cold water and then the warmed water ran into a tub or sink. Since it didn’t have a vent system, some people died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning when using this system.
Fast forward to about 20 years later when a Norwegian engineer who was living in Pennsylvania developed the first automatic gas storage water tank system. This is the type of system that we still use today.
There are several types of hot water systems. Here is some more info:
Storage Hot Water Systems
With this system, electric and gas heating work the same. How does the process work? Energy is converted to heat and water is heated. With convention movement, the water inside the tank is stirred around. Once the water reaches its heated temperature, the element switches off.
How does the water stay within temperature? A controlled thermostat is used. It’s like an automatic switch. When the water cools to a set temperature, the thermostat turns on and the water heating process begins again.
On Demand Hot Water Systems
On Demand or tankless heaters are another choice for hot water systems. These heat water when supply is required. How do they work? A flow sensor activates a gas burner which heats the water.
It’s important to keep up with all hot water repairs and replacements so that you can stay comfortable and happy.
